After a gloriously hot summer, choir rehearsals begin again on 7th September. We are looking forward to learning
Elgar's The Music Makers which will form the basis of our next concert, on 13 November, in the GWA at Wellington College.
As part of the preparation for this there is our next event, the Come and Sing workshop, on 26th September, in the Old Gym at Wellington College. This is a full day workshop, open to all singers, where we will be singing The Music Makers and it is an opportunity to explore this fascinating work whilst developing your choral and singing techniques.
This work is Elgar's setting of the Poem 'Ode' by Arthur O'Shaughnessy, which celebrates the dreaming artist. It was dedicated to his friend Nicholas Kilburn, who was a major influence and supporter of Elgar's career. The Music Makers contains snatches from Elgar's earlier works, including the Dream of Gerontius, Sea Pictures and the Enigma Variations and so is almost a musical autobiography of his life.
If you have always wanted to join a choir but are undecided then take a chance and join us for the day and enjoy working with these beautiful piece. We would love to meet you and are always happy to welcome new members.
Tickets are available from the link below and refreshments are included in the ticket price of £20 but please bring a packed lunch. Music hire is separately available for the day at £2.50. We look forward to seeing you there.
If you would like to try out choral singing then do please come along to one of our free Taster sessions. All the available dates are shown on our Event Calendar, from which bookings can be made. Further details can be found by clicking on the Taster Sessions link below.
