The theme of the Crowthorne Flower Festival 2026 was Planet Earth and the title of the CCS arrangement, created by Sally Ballard, was Rainforest.

Rainforests are multi layered, supporting many different types of trees, plants, flowers and wild life. They are the earths oldest living environments, but now cover no more than 6% of the worlds surface. To emphasise their importance, that 6% contains 90% of the worlds plant and animal species.
Rainforests control the earths temperature and it's atmosphere - they absorb vast amounts of carbon dioxide and produce the vital oxygen needed to sustain life They are damp and lush, generating rainfall through evaporation and a process called transpiration, whereby the water is absorbed through root systems, to travel up the stem and come out as water vapour from the leaves.
They have very tall top layers of exuberant green foliage, a midsection supporting bright exotic flowers, birds and butterfly's, moving down to the damp mossy floor, which is surrounded by a complex floor system which is easier to navigate than a jungle, and supports many larger animals.
