The choir singing at the last concert of our choral year on June 14th. The concert was aptly named 'At the end of the day' and was held in Wellington College's beautiful Waterloo Hall on a gloriously sunny evening. There was a wonderful turnout and we would like to thank our enthusiastic audience who made the evening so enjoyable, especially when joining in with gusto in singing our final song 'Do you hear the people sing' from Les Miserables.
Thanks go to our Music Director, Simon Williamson, who created a wonderfully eclectic programme for the evening, ranging from Fauré’s Cantique de Jean Racine to extracts from the musicals West Side Story and Les Misérables via an a cappella version of Lullaby of Birdland, Whiteacre’s Seal Lullaby and Lauridsen’s haunting ‘Sure on this Shining Night’. The end of the day theme was completed by 3 wonderful piano solos, each performed by one of three talented pupils from Wellington College. These pieces were Chopin’s Etude op.10 n.3 and Nocturne op.9 n.1 and Field’s Nocturne n.13.
A fitting end to our 2024-2025 season and rehearsals will start again on 8th September for our next concert. This will be on Friday November 14th, at the GWA Performing Arts Centre at Wellington College and will revert back to our choral roots with a performance of Maurice Duruflé's beautiful Requiem and Vaughan Williams Five Mystical Songs.
Before then these pieces will also be covered in our Come and Sing day on 27th September, so, if you have always wanted to sing, come along and immerse yourself in the spirituality of these glorious works.
