We would like to acknowledge the passing of Dame Felicity Lott, on 15 May, and pass our condolences onto her family and friends. She was a wonderful, much feted, English soprano who had a tenuous connection with Crowthorne Choral Society in that her younger sister, Debbie, sang alto with us on occasion.
CCS has also further benefited from Dame Felicity as, being an alumna of Royal Holloway, University of London, she founded a singing scholarship there and gave master classes and we are pleased to have students from Royal Holloway join us in some of our concerts.
It is now less than one month to our summer concert, on 13 June, which is to be held in the lovely Waterloo Hall at Wellington College. Rehearsals are going well and the eclectic repertoire of bird inspired songs, themed 'Birds of Paradise', ranges from the tragedies of Bridge's 'The Goslings' and Gibbons 'The Silver Swan' to the haunting beauty of Shaw's 'And the Swallow' and Mozart's 'Sparrow Mass' with pieces by Mendelssohn, Ravel and Stanford in between. The Sparrow Mass, written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1775 -1776 as a Mass in C, takes its nickname from a motif in the Hosanna section of two movements - the Sanctus and Benedictus, where the violins appear to 'chirp' and resemble birdsong, just before the choir takes up the main theme, See if you can spot this as it will be an interesting and hopefully fun evening ( and you don't even have to be a twitcher to attend).
Tickets are now on sale from the link below, or can be bought at the door on the day, and we look forward to seeing you there.
If you would like to try out choral singing then then do please come along to one of our free Taster sessions. All the available dates are shown on our Event Calendar, from which bookings can be made. Further details can be found by clicking on the Taster Sessions link below.
